Bochum
About the project
The metro station “Bochumer Verein / Jahrhunderthalle Bochum” was built in 2006 as part of a new underground Stadtbahn line. It is located on the site of the former traditional steel mill “Bochumer Verein” with the Jahrhunderthalle, which also provided the architects with the inspiration for the design of the building: Steel was chosen as the main construction material for the equipment of the station, and also in the lighting the reference to the glow of the metal in the steelworks was taken up. The dynamic colour change of the lighting on the platform, performed by the media channels of LMT GmbH, takes place in the rhythm of the incoming and outgoing trains: while blue light illuminates the waiting phases, the approach and entry of a train is announced on the respective track with the transition to red light. During the phase of boarding, white light dominates the scenery until the train leaves, then the light colour finally changes back to blue.
