Lighting quality is becoming increasingly important. This is demonstrated by the project for the broadcasting hall of the “Hessischer Rundfunk” in Frankfurt am Main. A guest concert by the Hessian Symphony Orchestra in the Kulturpalast Dresden was the decisive experience that finally made the desire to renew the broadcasting hall’s own lighting a reality.

As in the case of the Kulturpalast Dresden, the lighting design office Conceptlicht from Traunreut was responsible for the planning and implementation of the individual lighting solution in close cooperation with Leuchten+Metall Technik GmbH from Hilpoltstein in Franconia. The challenge in implementing the lighting solution was not to make any structural changes in the broadcasting hall and to use the existing mounting elements on the ceiling. This was achieved with the help of continuous rows and profile luminaires specially designed for this project, as well as by adapting LMT downlights from the SCOPE box and SCOPE Iris product families.

Satisfying the visual quality requirements, the lighting for a total of five orchestra scenarios as well as the clear demarcation from the audience area with 300 lux, was implemented by means of a sophisticated interplay of the various lighting components.
A newly developed light-band profile, with integrated floor, ceiling and wall components in the podium area, provides uniform illumination at 1,000 lux, 95 CRI and 3,000 K without disturbing light cones on ceilings and walls. In addition, 16 downlight chorus luminaires were installed between the slatted ceiling, which, thanks to their tiltable luminaire heads, provide optimal illumination of the stage, regardless of the selected lighting scene.

In the audience area, a total of 11 individual light bands with lengths of up to 25m and frontal wall illumination as well as a total of 420 integrated downlights were installed, whereby each light band was fixed with particularly filigree pendant tubes to allow visible routing of the cables.

The lighting solution is rounded off by the use of special SCOPE iris downlights, which are optimally suited for shallow ceiling recesses thanks to a transverse heat sink.
