FLATBEAM
Lighting system for a uniform, glare-free and discreet illumination of outdoor surfaces
Flatbeam technology for
Advantages
Reduction of hazardous situations
Flatbeam technology combines optimal illumination of the path with excellent glare-free design, reducing hazardous situations. In addition, a low proportion of diffuse light brightens the face area of the oncoming persons without glare, thereby preserving their recognizability and giving passers-by a sense of security.
Energy and cost savings
The reduced effort involved in assembly and maintenance can already lead to significant cost advantages. The targeted focus of the light to exactly the required areas (the path) allows the optimal use of energy and a reduction in electricity costs. In addition, flatbeam technology is also available as a conversion insert for existing light boxes with outdated technology, which avoids a cost-intensive complete replacement of luminaires.
Robust components
With its slim light-emitting aperture behind safety glass and a front cover made of inward-edged stainless steel, the luminaire is impact-resistant and vandal-proof. Thanks to the acid-resistant material, even urine and strong cleaning agents can not damage the luminaire. Dirt and paint can be quickly removed.
Easy installation and maintenance
The low installation height of approx. 1.20 m above the ground allows working at optimum height. This eliminates the need for laborious working with lifters or overhead.
Optimum anti-glare design
The specialised Flatbeam technology ensures with its low mounting height and its flat emission angle that pedestrians and cyclists cannot look directly into the light source and thus could be dazzled.
Bonus for the environment
The focussed orientation of the light to exactly the required surfaces avoids a negative impact on our habitat due to light pollution and spares the insect world.

Advantages
Feeling of safety
Whether in long low passages or under bridges and overpasses – with a ceiling brightening, a low ceiling height can be visually compensated. In addition the soft light gives passers-by a feeling of security.
Energy-efficient and eco-friendly
The extremely wide, flat light emission characteristic provides a very uniform surface brightening. The light is distributed efficiently with a very small distance to the surface. This is beneficial for the conservation of both energy resources and the insect world.
Optimum anti-glare design
Since the LACA indirect luminaires require only a small distance from the ceiling surface, no one can look directly into the luminaires and thus be dazzled.
Small dimensions
Due to its small dimensions, the LACA light insert is also suitable for small tube profiles. The shape of the tube does not cause problems, as the luminaire can be adapted to the lid.
This eliminates the need for top-mounted luminaires to lighten the ceiling, so that the lighting tube retains its clean appearance.

Advantages
More safety in case of fire
Thanks to the low installation height of only 1.20 m above the ground, the lighting is not obscured by the rising clouds of soot and smoke in the event of a fire. In an emergency, car drivers can thus reach the emergency exits without visual impairment and leave the tunnel tube, thus reducing panic situations.
Energy and cost savings
The reduced effort involved in assembly and maintenance, before and during tunnel operation, can already lead to significant cost advantages. Also, downtimes caused by long-term closures can be avoided. The targeted focus of the light to exactly the required areas (the path) allows the optimal use of energy and a reduction in electricity costs.
Best visibility conditions for drivers
The combination of direct roadway lighting below eye level and indirect wall lighting creates a dynamic lighting effect. This reduces the perception of monotony and reduces visual disturbance factors. Flatbeam technology optically expands the tunnel space, which can counteract illness-related anxiety states, such as claustrophobia.
Easy installation and maintenance
The low installation height of approx. 1.20 m above the ground allows working at optimum height. This eliminates the need for costly suspensions, lifting platforms, overhead work and lengthy tunnel closures.
Optimum anti-glare design
The specialised Flatbeam technology ensures with its low mounting height and its flat emission angle that pedestrians and cyclists cannot look directly into the light source and thus could be dazzled. The Flatbeam technology combines optimum illumination of roadways with excellent glare control and reduces dangerous situations.
Optional components
As the luminaire system is located in a traversing channel, optional components such as loudspeakers, cameras or sensors can be added very easily. It thus enables optimum adaptability to any tunnel project.
COMFYWAY explained…
WALLWASHER
The Wallwasher is integrated into the lighting system. It illuminates the tunnel walls very homogeneously, so that drivers of passing vehicles do not get dazzled. The Wallwasher distributes the light in parallel with the road and illuminates the tunnel wall upwards, whereat the light distribution curve is strongly limited towards the middle of the road. This type of lighting ensures that no light ray is disturbingly reflected into the driver’s eye. Depending on the design, both components can be dimmed independently. The light color is variable by the use of colored LEDs.
FLATBEAM
The main light beam of the flatbeam luminaires is below the eye level of the driver, with a wide beam characteristic at the same time. The implementation of these contrasting features is achieved by a special reflector technology: a sharp cut-off limits the vertical radiance, whereas the horizontal light emission is achieved by a linear reflector, which effects the greatest possible longitudinal illumination of the roadway. The result is both a counter- and pro-beam effect. The counter-beam effect uses the reflecting ability of the road surface to achieve a higher luminance towards the driver. The pro-beam effect supports the illumination in front of the vehicle for better perception of what is happening.
